CHILD-UP Kick-off meeting, Modena (Italy)

ON 17th-18th JANUARY 2019, THE KICK-OFF MEETING OF THE PROJECT “CHILDREN HYBRID INTEGRATION: LEARNING DIALOGUE AS A WAY OF UPGRADING POLICIES OF PARTICIPATION – CHILD-UP” WAS HELD IN MODENA (ITALY). 

The project will research the social conditions of migrant children’s integration through social participation, taking in primary account gender differences, legal status and age groups, aiming to propose an innovative approach to understanding and transforming their social condition. The initiative is funded within the Horizon 2020 framework, the European Union Research and Innovation Programme and developed by a partnership coordinated by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE), Italy which includes: the Center for Research, Training and Consultancy at the Protestant University of Dresden (ZFWB GmbH), Germany; the Jagiellonian University of Krakow (UJ), Poland; the University of Liège (ULIEGE), Belgium; the University of Northampton Higher Education Corporation (UON), UK; the Malmoe University (MAU), Sweden; the Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SeAMK), Finland; the International Institute of Humanitarian Law (IIHL), Italy; the European School Heads Association (ESHA), the Netherlands; and the Fondation des Régions Européennes pour la Recherche, l’Éducation et la Formation (FREREF), France. 

During the three-year project lifecycle, CHILD-UP general objectives will be:

  • providing a European overview, concerning children’s conditions of living, protection and education through the collection of data and evaluation;
  • providing support for migrant children’s exercise of agency in changing their own conditions of integration and constructing hybrid identities;
  • informing policies at the local, national and European level through dissemination and exploitation of research outcomes and tools.
